Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye’s UNESCO City of Literature, is preparing to host the Young Writers Support Program – Writing Camp, an initiative designed to foster literary talent in the provinces affected by the 2023 earthquakes. Organized through a collaboration between the Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, the Kahramanmaraş UNESCO City of Literature Office, and the BİLSEK Youth Club Association, the program will bring emerging regional writers together with established Turkish authors for an intensive seven-day residency.
Scheduled for October 19–25, 2026, the camp offers participants hands-on workshops focused on various literary genres, writing techniques, and text development. The program’s instructional faculty features a prominent group of authors and literary figures, including Aykut Ertuğrul, Selim Somuncu, Güray Süngü, Yusuf Genç, Mustafa Köneçoğlu, İnci Okumuş, Ömer Erdem, Celal Fedai, Yasin Mortaş, Mehmet Cemil, Tarık Tufan, and Ramazan Avcı.
Tailored specifically for residents of Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, and Hatay, the program targets emerging writers under the age of 30 who possess prior writing experience or are currently working on a literary project. Rather than focusing solely on technical instruction, the initiative aims to provide a platform for young authors to refine their voices and establish direct connections with Türkiye’s literary community.
By facilitating creative expression among youth in the disaster zone, the municipality and its partner organizations intend to strengthen Kahramanmaraş’s role as a UNESCO City of Literature while supporting the emergence of new literary perspectives from the region.
Applications for the program remain open through September 30, 2026, via an online application process.
