Young Writers Support Program Opens in UNESCO City of Literature Kahramanmaraş

In line with its mission to preserve its rich literary heritage and nurture the next generation of authors, Kahramanmaraş—Türkiye’s first and only UNESCO City of Literature—has launched the Young Writers Support Program (Genç Yazarlara Destek Programı). Organised in collaboration with the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, and the Bilsek Association, the “Writers’ Camp” taking place from 19 to 25 October has officially begun.

Designed to empower emerging voices from regions affected by the 2023 earthquakes, the initiative brings together 20 selected young writers from Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman, and Malatya. The participants arrived in the city on October 18, where they were welcomed with an inaugural dinner to mark the beginning of their creative residency.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in masterclasses, mentorship sessions, and professional networking facilitated by 12 distinguished authors, scholars, and literary mentors. The expert instructional team includes Tarık Tufan, Aykut Ertuğrul, Güray Süngü, Mustafa Köneçoğlu, Ömer Erdem, Yasin Mortaş, Selim Somuncu, Yusuf Genç, İnci Okumuş, Mehmet Cemil, and Ramazan Avcı.

Beyond creative writing workshops, the curriculum focuses on practical publishing skills. Mentors will guide young authors through manuscript preparation, navigating literary publishing networks, and establishing visibility within the contemporary literary landscape. Upon completion of the week-long program, participants will be awarded official certificates of completion.
