OUR VISION

To transform Kahramanmaraş into a globally recognized “World Capital of Literature” by merging its deep-rooted literary heritage with modern creativity, where literature serves as the primary engine for urban development, economic growth, and social well-being. Especially in the aftermath of the 2023 earthquakes, our vision is to utilize literature as an instrument for healing in the city’s physical and spiritual reconstruction, establishing a resilient urban model where creativity lies at the heart of sustainable urban life.

OUR MISSION

Preserving and Enhancing Literary Heritage: To protect a thousand-year-old literary accumulation stretching from “Karacaoğlan” to the “Seven Beautiful Men” through digital archives, museums, and academic research; and to pass this legacy on to younger generations and the world.
Strengthening the Creative Economy: To support the local ecosystem of authors, poets, and publishers; and to facilitate global network access for local artists through literature-oriented festivals, fairs, and workshops.
Social Cohesion and Inclusivity: To strengthen social harmony and solidarity by transforming literature into a space of expression for all disadvantaged groups, including refugees, youth, women, and individuals with disabilities.
International Cooperation: To contribute to intercultural dialogue and global peace through literature by actively sharing knowledge and experience with other member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Building a Resilient City: To ensure the preservation of urban identity and the vitality of collective memory by placing art and literature at the centre of post-disaster rehabilitation processes.
