The international promotional program for Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye’s first and only UNESCO City of Literature, was held with great distinction at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM). Hosted by Fulya Kalfa and İbrahim Sadri, the landmark event commenced with a special message from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and was graced by the presence of the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
Throughout the evening, the city’s meticulous journey to joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and its profound literary heritage were shared through keynote addresses. Key insights were delivered by Prof. Mehmet Kireççi (UNESCO National Commission), Fırat Görgel (Mayor of Kahramanmaraş), Prof. Vahit Kirişçi (MP and former Minister), and Hüseyin Yaman (AK Party Deputy Chairman).
Punctuated by moving recitations of verses by the city’s legendary master poets, the launch beautifully underscored Kahramanmaraş’s active mission to bridge its historical literary tradition with contemporary global life, celebrating its unique status on an international stage for all readers.
